Built in 1877 for a wealthy wine merchant the Pinegrove Hotel has many original features such as the tiled entrance hall and ornate cornices. One of our greatest features is a beautiful stained-glass window which was added to the first-floor landing in 1892.

Before it became the Pinegrove, the victorian property was once owned by the Bishop of Carlisle, who used it as a ‘Monks Haven’. At this time it was known as Pencarl House.

The original Victorian house was extended in the 1980s to create additional rooms and a function room, while trying to maintain its period feel.

The Pinegrove is a family-run business with knowledgeable local staff who provide a warm and friendly welcome to all, whether staying overnight or just popping in for food and drink.

Conveniently located just off Junction 42 of the M6, and just 20 minutes from the Lake District, the Pinegrove is the ideal place to base yourself when visiting the region.

Just a walk away from the city centre, you’ll find many great sights including Carlisle Castle and Cathedral. Venture further afield to discover Hadrian’s Wall, the Lakes, and Border country.
